Go Down To The Potter’s House
In Jeremiah 18 God instructs Jeremiah to “Go down to the potter’s house”. I wonder what would happen today if he did that to us. Would we go? Would we go now? Or would we most likely say, “Sure God, I’ll go down there just as soon as I finish with my shift at work.” Or maybe when we are done watching the football game,or complete the awesome book we are reading. You get the point.
God revealed truth to Jeremiah because Jeremiah listened to God and was obediant when God spoke. How many blessings do we miss simply by not listening when God is speaking to us? I would love to know.
A Good Prayer ?
When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:
Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free..
Amen!
I would say that is a good prayer. Wouldn’t you?
What is Worship?
According to Webster’s, the word worship comes from the Old English word weorthscipe (before 12th century) or as we would say today worthship. It is technically a reverence offered a divine being or supernatural power ; also : an act of expressing such reverence.
Considering the root word (worth-ship) and the technical definition you can say that worship is the act of expessing to God his value or worth. When we go to Church we worship. We say to God that his value is of high enough importance that we can take time out of our week to spend in reverence of him. Read more
